Platform Frames
Description
Our Cradled Boards, Frames, and Floater Frames are custom-made here on the Gold Coast by us, Waxy Art Supplies. Please note that as these are handmade, they require between 3 to 14 days to produce.
The Platform Frame provides a "floating" pine wood platform onto which you mount your (uncradled or unbraced) artwork. This design does not limit itself to encaustics, it can be used for mounting, mosaics, hard-backed canvas panels, and more. Ideal for use with our standard ready-cut birch Flat Panels.
Glue artwork onto the platform with silicon or liquid nails, (or even velcro for the smaller sizes). This eliminates the need for pressure on the artwork. Or, alternatively, any good wood glue will do.
The platform sits 12mm below the face surface of the frame, allowing for a range of panel thicknesses to sit recessed after attachment. The frame has a frame face width of 9mm and the frame depth on the outside is 33mm.
Note:
When choosing a platform frame, the size refers to the size of your panel. We have listed some common standard sizes for easy ordering, but if your art panel size is not on the list, don’t worry; we will make the frame according to your art panel size.
(Birch flat panels to suit these frames can be purchased from our flat panel range on the Boards & Panels page.)
Once your art panel is glued to the pine wood support in the frame, there will be a 5mm gap between the edge of your artwork and the inside edge of the frame (creating the appearance of your artwork floating in the frame).
All hardware is included – gallery-grade plastic-coated wire, D-rings, screws, and felt bumpers.

Our Signature Finishes - The Beauty of Natural Grain.
By using stains, rather than solid paints on our Tasmanian Oak, we allow the subtle depth, natural warmth, and beauty of the oak grain to remain visible.
Colours
White: For a clean, crisp, and fully opaque finish, pure white is our only solid coat option. (stark, vivid, crisp, Hamptons)
Limewash: If you want a light tone of white but prefer a softer, textured look, our limewash finish is an ideal alternative—softening the bright white while showcasing the oak’s natural pattern underneath. (soft, ethereal, warmer and more organic than white)
Clear: By far our most popular seller. It celebrates Tasmanian Oak in its purest form, highlighting the full warmth and unique character of the raw grain. (neutral, modern, clean, luminous)
Brown: A rich milk chocolate colour with subtle hints of the light undertone, and darker grain picked up by the stain. (warm, deep and moody)
Black: Unlike a flat, stark black paint, our black stain settles into a deep, sophisticated charcoal tone. This preserves the organic texture and underlying grain rather than masking it. (smoky charcoal, softened black, dramatic without losing soul)
All frames are sealed with the same protective topcoat, designed to protect the timber and impart a smooth, velvety satin low-sheen.
Frame colours from Left to Right are: White, Limewash, Clear, Brown, Black.
